Michelle Alexander, author of The New Jim Crow, compared the large number of people of color in prison to the system of Jim Crow in the South. She will be speaking at the University of Chicago on Thursday. Residents Fight Eviction. A group of tenants at a Rogers Park high-rise facing eviction and rent hikes from will have a rally Monday to protest the building's owners. People's Hearing on Police Crimes. A group of human rights and anti-police violence organizations don't think the city is doing an adequate job of holding the Chicago Police Department accountable. So they are holding a hearing of their own this coming Saturday.
