Fernando Diaz, Reporter

Fernando Diaz covers immigration, government and politics for The Chicago Reporter. A native of Bethesda, Md., Diaz received his journalism degree from Columbia College Chicago in 2004 and worked as a suburban reporter for the Daily Herald, (Arlington Heights, Ill.) and night police reporter at The Democrat and Chronicle, (Rochester, N.Y.) before joining the staff of the Reporter in October 2007.

Diaz’s work has been featured on WBEZ’s 848 and Telemundo’s EnContexto. Diaz is a member of The National Association of Hispanic Journalists and the Investigative Reporters and Editors. In 2007, he was awarded a Philip L. Graham Diversity Fellowship from IRE. He is currently a Justice and Journalism Fellow with the Institute for Justice and Journalism at the University of Southern California Annenberg School of Communication working on a story about immigrants in the military.
