Kimbriell Kelly, Editor

Kimbriell Kelly is the editor at The Chicago Reporter. She joined the Reporter staff in 2004 as a staff writer investigating issues of race and poverty after being awarded the 2004 Robert R. McCormick Tribune Minority Fellow in Urban Journalism. She is the recipient of the prestigious 2007 national Clarion award from the National Association of Women in Communication, the 2007 and 2006 Society of Professional Journalists Chicago Headline Club Peter Lisagor Award in business reporting and the 2006 Chicago Bar Association’s Herman Kogan Print Media Award of Merit in legal affairs reporting. Kelly was also awarded a 2005-06 Racial Justice Fellowship through the Institute for Justice and Journalism and was part of the staff honored with the national 2006 Paul Tobenkin Memorial Award through Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism. Kelly has discussed her work on CNN en Espanol radio, Chicago Public Radio and her research has appeared in the New York Times, Chicago Tribune, Chicago Sun-Times, Crain’s Chicago Business, Los Angeles Times, Forbes, the Chicago Defender, Utne magazine and on the local NBC, ABC, WGN affiliates and various radio stations, including the talk show of motivational speaker Les Brown.
