Working Hard Or Hardly Working

Chicago’s suburbs have become the new ports of entry in Illinois, drawing many immigrants who in previous decades would have first settled in the city. But many communities that have experienced the most dramatic growth still lag in providing services to communities of immigrants that may not speak English and are unfamiliar with local government and American society. A Chicago Reporter survey of 31 of these communities revealed that many still have a long way to go.
