Beyond Chicago

Illinois’ foreign-born population is increasingly calling Chicago’s surrounding counties home. Significant increases in the immigrant population in McHenry, Kendall and Will counties illustrate why the state is attempting to expand its reach beyond Chicago. The map shows the growth in the foreign-born population, based on those who reported having arrived in the 1990s versus those who came in the
1980s. The map does not represent the proportion of foreign-born residents to the rest of the population.
