Hard Time

Since 2000, Latino inmates from Cook County were more likely to serve longer prison sentences than their black and white counterparts. About one in four Latinos were sentenced to more than five years compared with less than one in six for both blacks and whites.

Note: Includes all Illinois inmates from Cook County incarcerated for crimes committed between January 2000 and September 2003.
