Hot and Cold Communities

With more than 120 home loan applications for every 100 mortgageable units, Rogers Park was the city’s most popular destination in 2003. By contrast, fewer than 2 applications were received for every 100 mortgageable units in Riverdale on the city’s Far South Side. The city’s most popular sites were mostly white or racially mixed neighborhoods on the North Side, but the redeveloping Washington Park and Woodlawn, predominantly black communities, also garnered much interest.

Notes: The data include applications submitted by individuals seeking loans for single-family homes or condominiums where the applicants intended to live. "Mortgageable units" does not include rental properties of more than four units.
