Owning Homes

In 2000, African Americans made up 23 percent of the population and 14 percent of the homeowners in Oak Park, while whites represented 69 percent of the population and 81 percent of the homeowners. In Evanston, 23 percent of the population and 16 percent of the homeowners were black, and 65 percent of the population and 79 percent of homeowners were white.
