Registration Requirements

The first phase of the National Security Entry-Exit Registration System, known as special registration, requires selected individuals to be fingerprinted, photographed and interviewed under oath at United States ports-of-entry. The second phase extends registration to men, 16 years and older, who already have been admitted to the United States, and are nationals or citizens of the 25 countries pictured below. The men were divided into four groups and called to register during periods between November and April.



•• Group 1: Iran, Iraq, Libya, Sudan, Syria
•• Group 2: Afghanistan, Algeria, Bahrain, Eritrea, Lebanon, Morocco, North Korea, Oman, Qatar, Somalia, Tunisia, United Arab Emirates, Yemen
•• Group 3: Pakistan, Saudi Arabia
•• Group 4: Bangladesh, Egypt, Indonesia, Jordan, Kuwait

Note: Those who do not have to register include permanent residents, refugees and some individuals who had applied for asylum.
