More than 57,000 people–"a majority of them minority–"reside within a half mile of the Chicago area's 15 biggest "intermodal" rail yards. On average, each yard emitted 11 tons of particulate matter annually.

Rail yard emissions:

1. Bedford Park
Company: CSX
Lifts: 918,680
Particulate Matter: 28 tons

2. Corwith
Company: BNSF
Lifts: 757,000
Particulate Matter: 23 tons

3. Willow Spring
Company: BNSF
Lifts: 698,000
Particulate Matter: 21 tons
