This week in Springfield, the Illinois House considered a law change that would remove a major barrier to employment for folks with criminal records. This week on the Barbershop Show, we discuss House Bill 5723, which would expand current record sealing laws and help ex-offenders reintegrate with society by removing the stigma of a felony conviction.
State Representative LaShawn K. Ford, of the 8th District, joins us by phone to tell us all about HB5723. He is the bill’s sponsor.
And with us at the shop are Attorney Melissa Williams, with the West Side Branch of the NAACP, and Anthony Lowery, policy director of the Safer Foundation.
