More than 6,500 candidates are running for two-year terms on Chicago’s Local School Councils.  The elections will be held on Wednesday, April 18 in elementary schools and Thursday, April 19 in high schools from 6.a.m. to 7 p.m.  To find out who is running and where, click here.

 

Maricela Garcia has been appointed chief executive officer of Gads Hill Center.  She succeeds Barbara Castellan, who led the organization for the past 19 years. Garcia was director of capacity building and juvenile justice policy at the National Council of La Raza.   She was also executive directors of the Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights and the Latino Policy Forum.

 

Wendy DuBoe has been named president and CEO of United Way of Metropolitan Chicago. She succeeds Laura Thrall, who resigned from the nonprofit after taking a medical leave.  DuBoe has been interim CEO since January, after serving as chief operating officer.  DeBoe will be responsible for executing the organization’s 10-year vision, LIVE UNITED 2020, which is a commitment to mobilize income, education and health resources in 17 community areas that embrace 45 neighborhoods.
