Republish Our Work
The Chicago Reporter makes our investigative journalism available for republication at no cost. Most of our stories include a “republish” button near the social share icons. If you’re a news outlet interested in sharing our work, we’re grateful for your partnership in expanding the reach of our reporting on race, poverty, and inequality in Chicago. We just ask that you follow these guidelines.
Credit Us
For the byline: Author Name, The Chicago Reporter
At the top of the story: Include this text and link if publishing online: “This story was originally published by The Chicago Reporter. Sign up for The Chicago Reporter’s newsletter here.”
At the end of the story: Provide this footer, retaining all links:
The Chicago Reporter is a nonprofit investigative news organization focused on race, poverty, and inequality in Chicago. We are supported by foundations and donor contributions. Follow us on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
Image Rights
Photos sourced from Getty Images can be republished as long as you credit both Getty and The Chicago Reporter in the caption. Creative Commons licensed images and images from government agencies may be republished with proper attribution. Otherwise, you cannot republish photographs, illustrations, or graphics without written permission from The Chicago Reporter and/or the photographer. Contact us at info@chicagoreporter.com to inquire about image rights.
What You Can (and Can’t) Change
You are free to choose your own headline and subheading provided they accurately represent the story and are not misleading. Articles must be republished in their entirety with all links within the story text retained. You may adjust references to time and location to fit your audience.
Examples: Changing “yesterday” to “last week.” Changing “Chicago’s South Side” to “the South Side.”
If you believe adding localized copy would strengthen the story for your readers, contact us directly at info@chicagoreporter.com. We must approve any changes before publication.
Technical Requirements
Click the republish button on the story you’d like to syndicate and copy the HTML from the republish page. This includes a tracking pixel that helps us measure our impact by recording the domain, publication date, and view counts. We don’t gather any other information. If you experience technical issues, email us at info@chicagoreporter.com.
No Paywalls, No Ads on Our Stories
Our commitment is to make accountability journalism accessible. If your site is paywalled, please allow readers to access stories you republish from us for free. We also ask that you don’t sell ads specifically placed within our stories. If you already have ads populating across your site, that’s fine.
Rights and Print Republishing
Only original Chicago Reporter stories are available for republication. Content from our partners that appears on our site is not included. This policy covers online republishing only. For information about republishing in print, email info@chicagoreporter.com.
Stay in Touch
Please inform us when you plan to publish the story. As a nonprofit newsroom, tracking the impact of our investigations is essential to our work. We’d love to hear how the story resonated with your audience and community. If we ask you to remove a story from your site or apply a correction, please do so promptly.
