Cornelia Grumman

Cornelia Grumman is joining the Robert R. McCormick Foundation as director of its Early Care and Education Program. Previously, she served as director of policy and strategy at the University of Chicago Urban Education Institute, and before that as the founding executive director of the First Five Years Fund.

Until then, she had been a journalist, writing for the Chicago Tribune and (Raleigh, VA) News & Observer. At the Tribune, she won a Pulitzer Prize in Editorial Writing for her editorials on capital punishment.

Robin Steans is stepping down from her position as executive director of Advance Illinois, a bipartisan, statewide education advocacy organization, to put more energy into the Steans Family Foundation and her other non-profit work. Steans is the founding executive director of Advance Illinois, which was formed in 2008. The organization is planning a national search for a successor.
