BROAD RESIDENTS Joanne Pearlman, a former vice-president for Citigroup, is joining CPS as a Broad Foundation resident. Pearlman will be a project manager, overseeing an analysis of high school dropout prevention programs. She will spend her first three to five months on a project to redesign goals and outcomes for the district’s graduation pathway programs. Pearlman has a master’s degree in business administration from Georgetown University and has also worked for Motorola and Winston & Strawn…. Dominique Jordan, former community and economic development consultant for the Peace Corps in Panama, will also be a Broad resident, serving as regional director of network growth for the KIPP (Knowledge is Power Program) Foundation in Chicago. Jordan has a master’s degree in business administration from Marquette University. The Broad Residency in Urban Education, funded by the Eli and Edythe Broad Foundation, places executives in two-year, upper-level staff positions in urban school districts across the country.
AT CLARK STREET Michael Vaughn has been promoted from CPS press secretary to director of the Office of Communications, taking over from Celeste Garrett, who has become director of communications for the School Board.
TEACHING FINANCE John W. Rogers,Jr., founder of Ariel Capital Management and co-founder of Ariel Community Academy in Bronzeville, is being given a “Visionary Award” from the National Council on Economic Education, a group that promotes the teaching of economic literacy. Ariel Academy, founded in 1996, focuses on financial education and provides each incoming 1st-grade class with a $20,000 fund to invest. (See ‘Stocks rise, so do test scores,’ in Catalyst, Oct. 2006.)
