Merri Dee has overcome abuse, a gunshot to the head, and a bevy of racism and sexism in media to become a Chicago broadcast legend and a philanthropist. She calls her life both tragic — and full of miracles. Dee has a memoir out – Merri Dee, Life Lessons on Faith, Forgiveness and Grace — that details the twists and turns of her amazing life.

On last week’s Barber Shop show, Dee spoke about the process of growing in mind and spirit through each difficulty she faced. We also were joined by Glenn Reedus, managing editor of The Chicago Crusader, a weekly newspaper that serves the African-Amercian community. Reedus was also a gun violence victim, shot when he was 16 years old.
