Dozens of people signed up to speak at December’s board meeting on Monday morning, and within minutes, there were no more advance sign-up slots left.

There are 30 more slots available for speakers to sign up the day of the meeting.

But starting in January, sign-up will be done entirely in advance.

CPS spokeswoman Robyn Ziegler says speakers can sign up in advance online, in person or by phone, and the sign-up will open at 8 a.m. on the Monday of the week before the board meeting.

CPS launched advance sign-up for board meeting speakers this fall, in response to frustration that parents and community members had to wait outside CPS offices in line for hours to get a speaking spot.

The district has also faced unconfirmed accusations that CPS employees held spots in line at the March board meeting for parents supportive of its policies.
